  • Overview

    Supervise all aspects of crew safety and provide medical assistance on a seafood processing vessel or land plant in a remote area of Alaska. Responsible for management and coordination of health, safety and regulatory compliance and implementing a safe work culture consistent with corporate policies and objectives. Oversee safety issues during maintenance and repair activities as needed. This position reports directly to the Facility Manager. Support is provided by the Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Department.


    • Work with all departments to establish safe work practices and ensure they are followed.
    • Conduct extensive safety orientations and training for all employees.
    • Administer first aid, respond to medical issues and emergencies for 250 or more employees and communicate with third-party medical professionals as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable AKOSH, OSHA, and US Coast Guard regulations as well as related company policies and procedures.
    • Routinely inspect facility for proper machine and other safeguards, perform drug testing, and conduct accident investigations.
    • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant records and reports.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Strong industrial and/or maritime safety background.
    • Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher certification preferred.
    • Significant first-aid and clinical experience strongly preferred.
    • Current OSHA 511/5410 certification is preferred or must be willing and able to obtain certification upon hire.
    • Previous vessel or land plant seafood experience strongly preferred.
    • Moderate to advanced computer skills; able to easily navigate within Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word documents.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated.
    • Proven ability to work cooperatively within all levels of the operation and the company.
    • Prompt and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required.
    • Must have the ability to work well under pressure, 12 or more hours per day, 7 days per week.
    • Must be willing and able to work with other departments in a team atmosphere.
    • Must be willing and able to live and work in confined quarters in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Must maintain professional conduct at all times and represent Icicle with the highest standards.
    • Successful completion of drug test required.

    Working Conditions

    This position will be based at an operations location in remote Alaska.  The length of time will be determined by the production season at the work location. 

    • Must be able to work 16 or more hours per day, 7 days per week in wet and cold conditions.
    • Seafood processing areas and engine rooms contain loud moving equipment. Hearing protection and other personal protective equipment is required.
