  • Overview

    The primary job responsibility of the assistant beach gang member is to follow the instruction and directive of the lead beach crew. During shift responsibilities include the movement, organization and logging of fishermen gear.  The beach gang will load and deliver nets/gear to boats on land, to houses, as well as to the dock or Wood River plant in order to transport via tender.  Beach gang will be responsible for organizing, staging, logging and helping to load gear onto tenders or taking to the Wood River plant to go on a tender.  There will also be a lot of miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to, keeping the yard clean and grass and bushes cut back, keeping the shop and basement clean and organized, any building maintenance that needs to be done including painting and documentation.  Maintenance on vehicles including heavy machinery is expected as well.  In addition, there is a variety of errands such as dump runs that fill up remaining time.  Must be able/and or willing to drive a fork lift and run a boom truck.  If you do not drive a forklift or have never run a boom truck we will teach you.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate gear pick-ups and drop off with fishermen and net hangers
    • Keep net yard organized and clean
    • Keep logs of incoming and outgoing nets and gear
    • Stage and move gear on and off at Wood River or City dock
    • Work with tender men (at dock) or Wood River to load and offload gear
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Must be able to lift 45+ lbs.
    • Must be able to drive a manual transmission
    • Prior Crane experience is a plus
    • Prior fork lift driving is a plus
    • Must be able to take direction without question or argument
    • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people
    • Must have general computer knowledge in order to keep and update logs
    • Must be willing to work all hours of the day and night
    • Must be able to take instructions and complete any task asked, without question
    • Must be able to switch roles at a moment’s notice in order to help with new tasks
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision
    • Must have the ability to work well under pressure, 12 or more hours per day, 7 days per week
    • Must be willing to live and work in confined quarters
    • Must be reliable and prompt
    • Must have good work ethics
    • Needs to be self-motivated and be able to find projects to do.

    Working Conditions

    • Ability to work in remote Alaska for approximately 12 weeks. June 15th to mid August.  Must be able to work 12 or more hours a day 7 days a week in an intense fast paced environment.  If loading at the dock you will be working with the tides meaning any time of the day or night.  If taking gear to Wood River to get loaded can always be done ahead of time, but there are times when fishermen will call at the last minute and you will have to rush to WR with more gear.
