  • Overview

    Responsible for the upkeep and repair of the facility’s half pound can line machinery including a Continental CR334 and Closetech seamers, Canco Highspeeed Fillers, Carecontrol and Thermal Ramsey checkweighers, and Canalyzer dud detector.  The Can Line Lead Machinist also plays an integral role in assisting the QA department monitor product safety. This position is seasonal and generally runs between May – September and reports to the Production Manager.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintenance and repair of the cannery’s two half pound can lines including all processing machinery and belts between fish house and retorts.
    • Pre and post season maintenance as required to ensure smooth start-ups.
    • Close cooperation with the other cannery departments to provide a continuous flow of product through the plant.
    • Close cooperation with the cannery’s QA department to ensure seam integrities are consistently being met.
    • Supervision and tutorage of a crew of 3-5 assistant machinists.
    • Post season ordering of parts and supplies.
    • Assistance with other plant and company projects as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills a necessity.
    • Previous experience with the above mentioned can line equipment desirable.
    • General knowledge of maintenance, welding, electrical, machine milling, and plumbing.
    • Able to perform well under stress – 16+ hours/day, 7 days/week.
    • An ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision.
    • Capable of communicating and working closely with the other cannery departments.
    • A motivator and mentor to the assistant machinists.
    • An enthusiasm to assist in other cannery projects and grow with the facility.
    • Able to live and work in a remote location.

    Working Conditions

    Ability to work in remote Alaska. Must be able to work 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week in an intense fast-paced environment.
