  • Overview

    The Payroll Assistant is primarily responsible for providing support to the payroll department.  This position is responsible for assisting with the processing of payroll.  At peak capacity, the payroll load includes as many as 3,500 employees, multiple, bi-weekly payrolls for both exempt and non-exempt employees in a multi-state environment.  Assisting with the payroll process includes data entry, conducting reconciliations, preparing and organizing information for payroll, accounting, filing, stuffing checks, and ad hoc reporting.  The Payroll Assistant role will be a full-time salary nonexempt position and reports to Payroll Supervisor.


    • Data entry.
    • Accounts payable and financial posting in Great Plains.
    • Assists and supports the payroll department by providing general administrative support. This includes, but is not limited to: copying, scanning, filling, processing paperwork, reconciliation, and generating reports.
    • Processing high volume of Garnishments and Wage attachments.
    • Assist with processing multiple bi-weekly payrolls for hourly, exempt and non-exempt employees. This is high frequency, time-sensitive work.
    • Assist with filing all required payroll tax reports and processing payments.
    • Conducting reconciliations.
    • Stuffing checks.
    • Ad hoc reporting.
    • Assist with special projects as required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    • Previous data entry experience is required with a high level of accuracy.
    • Previous Payroll experience is required.
    • Strong organizational, data management and multi-tasking skills. Including the ability to manage a high volume of both paper and electronic filing with a multitude of deadlines.
    • Professional communication skills and ability to maintain composure in a high-stress work environment.
    • Prompt, regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
    • Solid math and general accounting skills.
    • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Qualified candidate must possess a strong attention to detail.

    Working Conditions

    • The schedule will be full-time with core hours being Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Overtime is expected in order to keep up with all accounting and payroll deadlines, as the needs of the overall accounting department dictates.
