    This position administers HR programs and initiatives across the organization with a focus on the Cooke Aquaculture Pacific (CAP) business unit. HR programs and initiatives may include the development and implementation of company policies and procedures, updating and maintaining employee handbooks and training resources, and working with department managers to develop and define current and new job descriptions to match business needs. The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for conducting confidential investigations, working with managers to evaluate employee performance and document disciplinary action, preparing complex HR reports, and acting as a key point of contact for the Corporate HR Department. Responsible for ensuring that all tasks associated with recruitment, hiring, benefits administration, and the maintenance of confidential personnel files are performed in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy. Administers benefit enrollments, benefit changes, and benefit terminations. Prepares ad hoc reports.   Responds in a timely manner to general questions from employees. This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position that reports to the Corporate Human Resources Director.


    Acts as company key contact and liaison with employees and vendors to provide the best HR support and quality of service.


    Supports CAP management team, working closely with the CAP General Manager and Corporate HR Director on all employee-relation matters, policy implementations, review processes and compensation program.


    Involved in corporate hiring and spearheads CAP recruitment. These processes include the creation of job descriptions to meet company operating needs, developing proactive recruiting strategies, placing job advertisements, creating job requisitions, sorting resumes, scheduling and conducting interviews and administering pre-screening requirements (e.g. sending health screening questionnaires, completing reference and background checks).


    Initiates onboarding paperwork, conducts new hire orientations and enters employee information into the human resource information system (HRIS). Ensures proper documentation is filed and notifies management of important status updates.


    Conducts monthly tours with new hires, creating a fun, relaxed opportunity to build employee morale.


    Regularly maintains company organizational chart.


    Answers questions in a friendly and timely manner regarding verification of employment, benefit eligibility, coverage dates and enrollment status.


    Administers annual salary review program, coordinating with managers and payroll teams.


    Administers bi-weekly payroll changes for key corporate staff, CAP and Evening Star Fisheries’ pay groups, reconciling time reported on employee timecards and collaborating with Icicle’s payroll department to ensure timely processing.


    Codes vendor invoices related to employee services and benefits.


    Monitors leave requests and documentation to ensure compliance with company leave policies and regulatory requirements. Responsible for handling the leave process for qualified corporate and CAP employees.


    Provides support on confidential HR matters, e.g. phone hearings, employee investigations, legal requests.


    Plans and organizes company events, annual holiday parties and training seminars for management.


    Other duties as assigned.


    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or five plus years of HR experience in a similar role.


    Professional or senior-level HR certification is preferred.


    Advanced MS Office skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Experience with collaborative software preferred.


    Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize work tasks and meet multiple deadlines.


    Ability to maintain confidentiality and to appropriately exercise discretion.


    Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact and communicate positively and professionally in person, on the phone and in writing with an individual and with groups.


    Ability to maintain composure during busy and stressful situations.


    Basic understanding of payroll, accounting and coding invoices to GL accounts.


    Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment.


    Willingness to perform routine administrative tasks such as data entry and mass mailings, as needed. Prior experience using HRIS system is highly preferred.


    Seafood experience preferred.


    Prompt, regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.


    Available to work extended hours as needed.

    Working Conditions

    This position is based in the Corporate Office located in Seattle, Washington. Face-to-face collaboration is a key company value and will require prompt, regular and reliable attendance at the office during core business hours. Extended hours (for example, early mornings, evenings, occasional weekends and holidays) will be required as needed to meet business needs during peak periods. Occasional travel to work sites is required. Any travel will be for short periods of time and should not be a common occurrence.
